Summary

After losing her parents， young Mary Lennox is sent from India to live in her uncle's gloomy mansion on the wild English moors。 She is lonely and has no one to play with， but one day she learns of a secret garden somewhere in the grounds that no one is allowed to enter。 Then Mary uncovers an old key in a flowerbed - and a gust of magic leads her to the hidden door。 Slowly she turns the key and enters a world she could never have imagined。

MagicalI loved the idea of magic in this book that the kids thought of。 And if we really think about it our world is magical。 How springtime can grow plants and new animals are born。 And children can get healthy again by playing outside and working in a garden。 I remember watching this movie when I was a little girl and I finally read it！ I am very glad I did！

This is a book that I loved as a child and （mostly） enjoyed reading to my daughter。 The timeless and beautiful themes of the magic and healing of friendship and nature are spot on。 Any honest review of this book should mention that in the chapter "Martha"， Mary expresses very racist white supremacist ideas。 It's not super surprising as Mary's character at this stage of the story is that of a spoiled brat。 What is even more unsettling is that none of the other characters challenge these notions o This is a book that I loved as a child and （mostly） enjoyed reading to my daughter。 The timeless and beautiful themes of the magic and healing of friendship and nature are spot on。 Any honest review of this book should mention that in the chapter "Martha"， Mary expresses very racist white supremacist ideas。 It's not super surprising as Mary's character at this stage of the story is that of a spoiled brat。 What is even more unsettling is that none of the other characters challenge these notions of white supremacy。 Unsettling， though not surprising given how deep racism runs in society。 A little bit of vomit anyone？ 。。。more

This book is still amazing as an adult！ My little sister used to watch this movie on repeat when we were growing up and the details of the book are even better than the movie。 Frances Hodgson Burnett brings her characters and the garden to life in a spectacular way。 Connor was even better in the book and I loved remembering this rich cast of personalities。 The lessons of mindset and treatment of others is superb。The one is a gem at any age。5 Solid Stars。
